What the blog covers

Two threads run through these articles. The first is national: what solar actually costs in a given country, which companies operate there, and what support schemes exist. Markets differ enormously — the same 5 kW system pays back in six years in one country and fifteen in another, and the difference is rarely the hardware.

The second is practical: how equipment behaves once installed, why systems underperform their design figures, and which decisions at planning stage turn out to matter most. Much of it is the context the calculators assume but cannot show in a results box.

Reading order

The articles stand alone, so there is no sequence to follow. If you are researching a specific country, start with that guide; if you are weighing up a system, the calculators are the faster route, and the about page explains what they do and do not account for.

Why country guides

The hardware is close to identical everywhere. What changes from one country to the next is everything around it: the price of a kilowatt-hour, whether surplus generation is paid for and at what rate, what permitting involves, and how competitive the installer market is. Those factors move payback periods by a decade, which is why a general article about solar economics is nearly useless and a specific one is not.
